The Bridge Project at the Intersection of King Abdullah Road with Prince Turki Bin Abdulaziz I Road is part of the development project of the Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz I Road axis, which aims to improve its efficiency and ease traffic congestion on King Fahd Road.
Located near King Saud University, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, and high-traffic commercial destinations, the bridge is intended to increase the total capacity of Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz I Road to 120,000 vehicles per day, in addition to improving traffic flow along the adjacent road network. The project is part of the five-year plan for the development of the metropolitan road network, which included the development of a 32-km-long section of Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz I Road between King Salman Road and the Southern Ring Road. The aim is to transform this road into the main axis of vehicular traffic crossing the city towards the north and the south and to be an adjunct to King Fahd Road.
The 886-meter-long bridge covers a total area of 1.6 square kilometers and is cladded with 16,307 square meters of back-lit aluminum panels that add an aesthetic touch to the intersection. Moreover, the project includes the construction of pedestrian sidewalks along the bridge, and the diversion/development of road service and utility networks, including electricity, communications, lighting, flood drainage, and irrigation.
The project also includes the construction of a main two-way road with three lanes in each direction, in addition to at least a two-meter-wide service road with two lanes that gradually widen into four lanes at the intersection.
